Chief Engineer

CHIEF ENGINEER

An exciting opportunity for an Executive position of Chief Engineer has arisen for a suitably qualified and experienced person at Allied Timbers Zimbabwe (Pvt) Ltd. Allied Timbers Zimbabwe (Pvt) Ltd is an extensive, local and international provider of high quality and durable timber-based solutions for both industrial, domestic and end user markets. The successful incumbent will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

1) Ensures that equipment is properly designed, selected and installed based on a life cycle philosophy of an asset.

2) Ensures that equipment is performing effectively, efficiently and there is continuous cover of the machinery and equipment in case of breakdown.

3) Establishes and monitors programs for critical equipment analysis and condition monitoring techniques.

4) Advises senior management on purchase of new machinery and installation.

5) Promote equipment standardization.

6) Consults with maintenance craft workers on technical problems.

7) Monitors new tools and technology.

8) Develop standards for major maintenance overhauls and outages.

9) Makes cost-effective benefit review of the maintenance program.

10 )Provides technical guidance for the preventative and predictive maintenance programs.

11) Serves as the focal point for monitoring performance indicators for maintenance management, benchmarking studies by monitoring competitors’ activities in maintenance management.

12) Optimizes maintenance strategies, to help with installation and commissioning guidelines.

13) Responsible for analyzing equipment and operating data.

14) Designing maintenance strategies, procedures and methods.

15) Diagnosing breakdown problems.

16) Carrying out quality inspection on jobs.

17) Liaising with client department, customers and other engineering and production colleagues.

18) Improving health and safety policies and procedures.

 

Qualifications and Experience

1) A degree in a relevant Engineering subject (mechanical, production or process) is required.

2) Three years’ post-qualification experience in heavy industrial manufacturing is desirable.

3) Exposure to timber processing and boiler maintenance are advantages.

4) Registration with Engineering Council of Zimbabwe or any other recognized body.

 

Remuneration

A remuneration package commensurate with education and experience will be given to the successful candidate.
